Kava, is a very common beverage in Pacific Island cultures, which is derived from the kava plant's roots. The Kava plant is also know as the Piper Methysticum Plant. This unique plant is a part of the pepper family and is cultivated in the Western Pacific Region. The "kavalactones" are the active compounds found in Kava, these kavalactones are concentrated in the root and are the responsible party for providing relaxation, empathy and stress-reducing effects! Fair warning, these compound also do give kava a very unique and distinctive flavor and aroma... but don't worry, it grows on you! Kava has a long history dating back to prehistoric Polynesia (Findings back as far as 3,000 years!) and has been utilized in religious rituals and social events, now spreading to Nakamals all around the world!
